Peak Scientific proud to support ground-breaking Africa LCMS workshop
Peak Scientific, the global leader in gas generation for analytical laboratories, is
proud to have recently supported a ground-breaking LC-MS workshop in Kenya. The
workshop, organized by the Pan Africa Chemistry Network (PACN) was the first LCMS workshop of its kind to be held in Africa.
Peak Scientific was able to donate a NM32LA nitrogen gas generator to Jomo
Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) for use at the workshop
after being approached by the Recycling Organisation for Research Opportunities
(RORO). RORO recycles scientific analytical instrumentation by redistributing it to
academic institutions in the developing world. The instrumentation RORO recycles
often needs a gas supply, as in the case of JKUAT which received a Micromass
Quattro Ultima LC-MS/MS system donated by Waters Corporation. This instrument
required a gas supply which Peak were pleased to provide by donating a brand new
NM32LA nitrogen generator to the university.
With the equipment in place, JKUAT and RORO were able to hold a 5-day practical
based LC-MS/MS training workshop, the first of its kind in Africa. The workshop was
attended by 12 participants from Kenya, Ghana and Nigeria.
Dr Giles Edwards, Technical Director and Founder Trustee at RORO, commented:
“It is always a great achievement any time RORO is able to support scientific
research in developing countries through the provision of sophisticated analytical
instrumentation. By working with companies like Waters Corporation and Peak
Scientific, who are willing to donate equipment, we are able to provide research
opportunities that would otherwise not be possible due to financial constraints. It is
RORO's vision to assist with fostering a global solidarity movement of scientists who
can support each other; this in turn will enable researchers at JKUAT for example to
reach their full potential and make valuable contributions to the scientific community
worldwide.”

Mark Flannagan, Marketing Director at Peak Scientific, commented:

At Peak we strive to contribute to RORO projects whenever we can. By providing the
NM32LA generator to JKUAT we were pleased to remove the worry of gas costs,
enabling the LC-MS research planned there to progress unaffected by this financial
constraint.

The donated equipment will continue to benefit JKUAT which will use it for nontargeted and targeted analysis covering a broad range of applications from
environmental monitoring through to industrial pharmacy.
This is not the first time Peak Scientific has donated a gas generator via RORO and
the gas generator company looks forward to continuing to work with the recycling
organization in the future to further support scientific research in the developing
world.
